EMBRACE MENTORSHIP

EMBRACE is a mentorship program designed and dedicated to serving girls 10-15 years old, whose parent(s) are currently serving a prison sentence or have previously served a prison sentence.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Our EMBRACE mentorship program is dedicated to uplifting the spirits of youth girls while also building character and self-esteem using faith based principles.

If the father, mother or guardian, becomes incarcerated, where does it leave the mental, emotional, social, physical and financial state of a child? What are the lasting effects of incarceration on the children who were left behind? Or most importantly, when they become adults?

When, where and how are children taught to cope and deal with the negative impacts of incarceration?

That’s where we come in.

Proverbs 22:6

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”

While it may be the parents who are physically behind bars, the children left behind, shares the same sentence as their incarcerated parents. It’s these invisible bars EMBRACE strives to break-down.

We know, from experience, when parents are absent from the home, children often feel abandoned, rejected, unloved, lonely, and guilty. This mentorship program aims to eliminate these emotions, and mentor girls by encouraging them to pursue healthy, whole, loving, lives free from the emotional toll incarceration can cause.

Our founder, and lead mentor, Tiauna Awumah learned the hard way, as her father served a 25 year sentence. She has since, overcome her childhood challenges and wants to help other girls dealing with the same or similar challenges she experienced growing up.
